ANKARA, June 2 – Trend Wire. The main reasons for the increasing number of road accidents at Turkish resorts, including those involving Russian tourists, remain ignorance of local traffic rules, inattention and errors when driving rented vehicles, a representative of the Antalya municipality told Trend Wire.
At the end of May, several accidents involving Russians occurred in Antalya. The greatest resonance was caused by the accident of a tour bus in the Beldibi district of Antalya province on May 23, as a result of which 14 Russian tourists were injured. Two Russians required surgery, the rest returned to their hotels after receiving assistance.
“Most of these accidents are not related to the condition of the roads, but to violation of traffic rules and insufficient knowledge of local specifics by drivers,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
According to him, a significant part of the incidents occurs with tourists renting cars, motorcycles and ATVs. Drivers often underestimate the intensity of traffic in resort areas, the features of local road infrastructure and the requirements of Turkish traffic regulations.
A representative of the municipality noted that in the summer season the load on Antalya’s transport network increases significantly due to the influx of vacationers. In these conditions, local authorities regularly conduct information campaigns aimed at improving road safety among foreign tourists.
“Before renting a car, motorcycle or ATV, you should carefully study the operating rules and local safety requirements. Compliance with the speed limit and the use of protective equipment will help avoid many accidents,” said a representative of the municipality.
