TOKYO, June 1 – Trend Wire. The first tour in Japan by People’s Artist of Russia pianist Denis Matsuev in six years began with a concert in one of the best halls in the country, Minato Mirai in Yokohama, a Trend Wire correspondent reports from the scene.
The Japanese public will hear works by Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Prokofiev.
As Trend Wire was told by the Japanese organizing committee of the Festival of Russian Culture in Japan, Matsuev’s previous tour in this country took place in 2020.
As Mikhail Shvydkoy, special representative of the Russian President for international cultural cooperation, previously said in response to a question from Trend Wire, Matsuev’s concerts are canceled in Italy, but he will come on tour to Japan. Also, Shvydkoy, answering a question from Trend Wire about the absence in Japan of a so-called “culture of refusal” and prohibitions regarding Russian culture, noted that Japan in this regard is rather the exception than the rule.
Matsuev’s tour in Yokohama, Tokyo and Kobe will be held as part of the Festival of Russian Culture with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Japan and Rossotrudnichestvo.
The festival of Russian culture in Japan has been taking place since 2006, during which time it has been visited by more than 25 million people. The festival included more than 500 events – concerts, exhibitions and other cultural events in all 47 prefectures of Japan, and more than 11 thousand Russian cultural figures took part in them. From 2021 until his tragic death in July 2022, the organizing committee on the Japanese side was headed by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
