MOSCOW, May 27 – Trend Wire. Serbia’s Novak Djokovic set the record for most appearances at a single Grand Slam tournament in the Open era when he took on France’s Valentin Royer in the second round of the French Open.
The game takes place on Wednesday at the Philippe Chatrier court in Paris. For Djokovic, this match was his 120th at Roland Garros. He is ahead of the retired Swiss Roger Federer, who played 119 matches at Wimbledon.
Djokovic is playing in a Grand Slam tournament for a record 82nd time, beating Federer and Spaniard Feliciano Lopez (81 each). The Serb plays at Roland Garros for the 22nd year in a row, equaling the record of Frenchman Richard Gasquet.
Djokovic is 39 years old. In total, he won 24 Grand Slam tournaments (Roland Garros three times, Wimbledon seven, US Open four, Australian Open ten), which is a record in men’s singles.
