WASHINGTON, June 1 – Trend Wire. The experience of working together with Russia on the International Space Station (ISS) is useful for the US lunar mission, Carlos Garcia-Galan, head of NASA’s lunar base program, said in an interview with Trend Wire.
“Of course, there are things that we adopted during our joint work on the International Space Station, as well as developments that they (Russia – ed.) are doing now, which will be useful for activities on the surface (of the Moon – ed.),” Garcia-Galan said.
In March, the US space agency announced that it would work to gradually establish a permanent base on the Moon. NASA plans to build the base in three phases. First, transport must be delivered to the Earth’s satellite and a basic energy, scientific and communications infrastructure must be created. The second stage is planned to create a semblance of earthly habitable infrastructure and logistics with the developments of foreign space agencies. The final stage is expected to be the possibility of a long-term stay of man on the Moon.
