Kunakova devoted more than half a century to serving the art of ballet within the walls of the Mariinsky Theater. Her creative destiny on the famous stage began in 1974. Until 1992, she was a leading performer of the ballet repertoire. Her best roles included roles in the plays “The Legend of Love”, “The Sleeping Beauty”, “Giselle”, “La Bayadère”, “Swan Lake”, “Raymonda”, “Corsair”, “Don Quixote”. At the same time, Kunakova was constantly in creative search, included new choreography in her performance programs, and appeared in performances at other theaters in the country.
In 1997, she became a teacher-tutor at the Mariinsky Theater, and later a choreographer-tutor. In addition, she transferred classical performances in the editorial offices of the Mariinsky Theater to the stages of Minsk, Athens, Tokyo, and Brazil. Her numerous achievements were recognized with honorary awards and titles. In 1974 she was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR, and in 1983 she became People’s Artist of the RSFSR. In 2009, she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree, and last year she became a Knight of the Order of Merit in Culture and Art.
