Pieterse eighth after steering error at Nové Mesto World Cup, Stigger strikes
Mountain bike star Laura Stigger has won the second World Cup race of the season in Nové Mesto. Puck Pieterse did not get further than eighth place.
The 24-year-old Dutch woman won the short race at the opening of her mountain bike season on Saturday and initially rode at the front again on Sunday. In the third round, however, she had to leave the bike for a while on the tough course after a steering error and that was the signal for the Swedish world champion Jenny Rissveds to shake the tree.
Pieterse lost more and more ground and could no longer play a significant role. Stigger took off at the front. The pursuers looked more at each other than at the front, allowing the Austrian to take the victory with superior force.
