44-year-old Serena Williams returns to the WTA tour and plays the Queen’s doubles tournament
Tennis icon Serena Williams makes her return to the WTA tour after more than three years. The 44-year-old Williams will participate in the doubles tournament at Queen’s grass tournament.
It is not yet clear who Williams will play with in London, but it would be 19-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko. The tournament will be played from June 8 to 14.
In recent weeks there have been rumors about Williams’ possible tennis comeback. In her career she won 73 singles titles, including 23 tournament victories at Grand Slam tournaments. She is the only player to have achieved the ‘career golden slam’ (all Grand Slam tournaments and Olympic gold) in both singles and doubles.
“Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to start this next chapter. Grass has provided me with some special moments in my career and I’m super excited to compete again in one of the sport’s most iconic venues,” said Williams.
